How we build the directory

Every supplier listing comes from public Medicare data. Here is exactly what we take, what we leave out, and what a listing can't tell you.

Last updated October 13, 2026

The source

Listings come from the CMS Medical Equipment Suppliersdataset published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS describes it as a list of suppliers that shows the supplies carried at each location and the supplier's Medicare participation status. We use the release of October 11, 2026, which has 56,962 supplier locations.

Which locations we include

We keep the 21,203 locations that list at least one of these Medicare supply categories: wheelchairs (standard manual, standard power, complex rehabilitative manual or power), power-operated vehicles (scooters), or walkers. Then we sort them by the kind of business CMS records:

  • Medical equipment suppliers (7,813 locations): medical supply, home medical and oxygen equipment, orthotics and prosthetics businesses, and pharmacies or stores that also list wheelchairs or scooters. Each has a profile page.
  • Other local retailers (13,280 locations): pharmacies, grocery stores and department stores whose only mobility listing is walkers. They appear on city pages in a separate list, without profile pages.
  • Not published:physician, therapist and facility enrollments, which generally supply their own patients, and the few records we can't classify. We keep them for review.

We correct individual records by hand only after a documented check, and we keep a note of what was checked.

What a listing tells you, and what it doesn't

A listing shows the product lines a location reported to Medicare, its phone number and location, and whether CMS lists it as a Medicare participating supplier. Medicare suppliers must disclose the products and services they provide when they enroll.

It doesn't tell us what's in stock today, whether a business rents equipment, which brands it repairs, its delivery area, hours, prices or the insurance plans it works with. Profiles show all of these as not confirmed. There are no separate Medicare categories for rollators or transport chairs, so we never claim a location has them.

Names, addresses and duplicates

  • CMS names are in capital letters; we change them to title case and keep the registered name on the profile.
  • Each location is its own listing, including different branches of the same company. We never merge locations by name or phone number.
  • When a business name could be a person's name, we hold the street address until we've checked it's a business address, and show the city and phone only. 49 supplier listings are held this way.

City pages

A city gets its own page when it has at least 3 medical equipment supplier locations. Other locations are listed on their state page, so every profile can be reached from the directory. We don't build pages for every combination of city and equipment type.

Updates

We re-import the data when CMS publishes a new release, review the changes before publishing, and show the release date on every page. A location that disappears from a new release is reviewed rather than silently removed.
